Using ControlCenter4 - Home Mode (Windows Only)
1. Load documents in the ADF.
To scan both sides of a document automatically, you must use the ADF, not the flatbed scanner glass.
2. Click the (ControlCenter4) icon in the task tray, and then click Open .
3. Click the Scan tab.
4. Under Document Type, select Custom , and then click the Custom Settings button. The Custom Scan Settings dialog box appears.
5. Select the 2-sided Scanning check box.
6. Select the Long-edge binding or Short-edge binding option, depending on the original layout.
7. Configure other Custom Scan Settings , if needed.
9. Click (Scan). The machine starts scanning, and the scanned image appears in the image viewer.
10. Click the left or right arrow buttons to preview each scanned page.
11. Do one of the following:
- Click (Save) to save scanned data.
- Click (Print) to print scanned data.
- Click (Open with an Application) to open scanned data in another application.
- Click (Send E-mail) to attach scanned data to an email.
- Click (OCR) to convert your scanned document to an editable text file. (available only for certain models)
Using ControlCenter4 - Advanced Mode (Windows Only)
1. Load documents in the ADF.
To scan both sides of a document automatically, you must use the ADF, not the flatbed scanner glass.
2. Click the (ControlCenter4) icon in the task tray, and then click Open .
3. Click the Scan tab.
4. Click the button for the setting you want to change ( Image , OCR , E-mail , or File ). The scan settings dialog box appears.
5. Select the 2-sided Scanning check box.
6. Select the Long-edge binding or Short-edge binding option, depending on the original layout.
7. Change the scan settings, such as file format, file name, destination folder, resolution and color, if needed.
To change the file name, click Change .
To change Destination Folder , click the folder icon.
8. Click Scan . The machine starts scanning.
You have now changed the default settings for your selected Scan to action. These settings will be used the next time one of the scan options ( Image , OCR , E-mail , or File ) is selected for this action.
Using Brother iPrint&Scan (Windows or Macintosh)
1. Load documents in the ADF.
To scan both sides of a document automatically, you must use the ADF, not the flatbed scanner glass.
2. Open Brother iPrint&Scan :
- Windows Users: Double-click on (Brother iPrint&Scan) .
- Macintosh Users: Browse to Go → Applications → Brother iPrint&Scan .

3. The program will search for your machine.
If your machine is not automatically found, make sure that it is turned on and connected either to the computer or network (depending on your machine's specifications). You may click Select your Machine to search again.
4. Load your document on the scanner.
5. Click Scan .
6. Configure the desired scan settings. Click All Settings for additional settings.
7. From the 2-sided dropdown, choos e On (Flip on long edge) or On (Flip on short edge) .

Using the Scan Key
1. Make sure that the computer is powered on.
2. Load your document.
3. Press [Scan] → [to PC].
4. Press the desired scan option on the Touchscreen.
5. For network users: P ress ▲ or ▼ to select the computer where you want to send data, and then press the computer name.
If the LCD prompts you to enter a PIN for the computer, enter the four-digit PIN on the LCD and then press OK .
6. Do one of the following:
- If you want to use the default settings, go to step 9.
- If you want to change the current settings, go to step 7.
7. To change the settings, press the desired setting on the left side of the LCD , and then select the desired option.
8. To scan both sides of the document, p ress 2-sided Scan , and then select the document type.
9. Press Start . The machine starts scanning. If you are using the machine's scanner glass, follow the Touchscreen instructions to complete the scanning job.
