Finding the right Christmas reading comprehension activities and worksheets for middle school can help alleviate some of the stress ELA teachers face during the holidays. Many middle school students are very excited and may fondly remember working on Christmas activities in elementary school. I always wanted to include festive activities in my lesson plans, but I just didn’t have the room in our pacing calendar to do anything that wasn’t based on the standards. I decided to create these fun and engaging Christmas reading comprehension activities to use in my middle school classroom.
Your middle school students are used to reading passages, so I created reading comprehension passages that they would get excited about! My Santa Claus differentiated reading passage explains the history of Santa Claus. The Reindeer differentiated passage will inform your students about reindeer. These reading comprehension passages come written at two levels and include a differentiated context clues activity, reading comprehension questions, and a writing assignment. These print and go activities are perfect for independent work so that you can work on your to do list in the days before the holiday break.
People make inferences regularly, but our students don’t always realize this. My text message analysis activities are very popular because students love the familiar format and provide great inferencing practice. In this resource, students will read Christmas-themed sentences and use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. They will then color in boxes to reveal a mystery image.
